| Pilots SOC Code: 53-2012 Educational Cluster: Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Occupational Description Pilot: Operates fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft, lighter-than-air, powered or unpowered, single or multiple passenger seating, cargo carrying aircraft for personal or commercial purposes. Commercial Pilot: Can transport passengers or goods for compensation. Airline Transport Pilot: Is a pilot trained and tested to a higher level of skill and knowledge and can transport passengers or goods for compensation. Flight Instructor: Instructs students for certification in aircraft operations. Licensure Requirements Flight hours, knowledge and medical requirements vary depending on the type of certificate desired. Additional requirements are contained in the Federal Aviation Regulations. Individuals may contact the Federal Aviation Administration for details. Fee Information No fees are paid to the Federal Aviation Administration; however, there is a fee for the written and flight examinations taken through official testing sites and through designated examiners. The fee varies depending on the examination taken. Renewal Information Only the Flight Instructor Certificate has a two year renewal requirement. |
